Abnormal uterine bleeding is a common gynaecological problem with significant emotional , socioeconomic and health impact. Abnormal uterine bleeding can be caused by a variety of reasons ranging from hormonal imbalance , precancerous conditions of the lining of the uterus to uterine fibroids and polyps. It can be also caused by general medical disorders. Left undiagnosed , it can lead to ineffective treatment and prolonged suffering and deterioration of health of the affected woman and her ability to function in society and at home.
Typically, affected women wonder between ERs and doctors seeking relief. Ineffective treatment lead to the complication of significant anemia and hemorrhage requiring blood transfusion and intravenous iron therapy without addressing the root cause of the bleeding problem. That lead to recurrence of the abnormal heavy bleeding and the cycle repeats itself. Unfortunately, lack of timely access to a specialist who can provide proper diagnosis and effective treatment ( frequently including access to surgical intervention) complicates patient care.
At Astra we have the ability to see patients in a short time providing diagnostic workup and have readily available access to hysteroscopy at our “Ambulatory Hysteroscopy Unit” where we can see and treat the problem on the spot utilizing the see and treat approach. Our expert hysteroscopy staff can do most of these procedures without anesthesia or using conscious sedation judiciously. Fewer cases may need deep sedation.
We are uniquely practicing the concept of rapid access to care and providing true ambulatory hysteroscopy approach.
